The dean of the Chapel of Duke University, the Rev. Dr. Jas. T. Cleland, here provides 18 excellent communion meditations, and he also provides instructions to young and less experienced clergymen on how they may write and use meditations, rather than sermons, on appropriate occasions. The purpose of these meditations is, of course, to prepare the worshipper to receive the Sacrament, by assisting him to understand the richness of meaning, and the help to provide for every need to be found there. This is an evangelical interpretation and its contemporary meaning is made plain. Intended chiefly for use by the clergy, it will serve well as devotional reading for any mature Christian.
