Thurber's latest New Yorkiana, fables in modern dress and nimble nonsense. Many of the familiar Aesop fables are there with an old favorite fairy tale and a few of Thurber's own thrown in. In each case there is a modern variation of an old story, or ironic perversion of old truths, or neat punned morality lines. You know him -- you like him (or you don't like him). These aren't uniformly hilarious.
