THE LITTLE ARK

Like Richard Hughes in Hh Wind in Jamaica Jan de Hartog draws children in terms of their odd detachment from adult concepts of disaster and tragedy, their cruelty, their perverted senses of humor, but with a difference here, that de Hartog's children are likeable. There is the very originally told tale of orphan wards of a southwest Holland parson, and of the flood tragedy they lived through. High realism- perhaps some will not like, but that will hold readers to the end.
