LIFT YOUR WAY TO YOUTHFUL FITNESS

Massive, comprehensive detail on why and how to initiate a sound weight-training program. The Todds are both champion powerlifters--and past the point of believing that huge bulk is necessary or synonymous with weightlifting. Jan at one time weighed 226 pounds (she then set the world record squat of 545« pounds); after deciding to streamline her body and change her training program, she set a world record deadlift of 446 pounds--when she weighed only 148«. After relating their own experiences; and the development of their program, the Todds lay out the arguments for fitness via weightlifting--advising however, that it be combined with some form of aerobics. (Walking gets the nod over jogging, since fewer injuries result.) Finally, they set out a graduated program for training, either at home (with much equipment needed) or at a commercial gym. (The biggest hazard: time wasted socializing.) This is well-planned, with attention to detail, and should find a ready audience with the growing numbers of recreational lifters.
