SPOOK

Spook is a little black dog and Grimalda the witch used him as her familiar because she had a terrific allergy to cats. He was not, however, very well adapted to the haunting life and on Halloween he clumsily fell off the broomstick and into the arms of a little boy named Jamie. It's mutual love at first sight of course, and when Spook is captured by Grimalda, Jamie wins him back in a contest monitored by the Head Witch and her underlings. Spook's and Jamie's adventures are narrated in the cloyingly coy tone that afflicts so many Halloween stories In this case, the story is much too drawn out and nearly humorless.
