by Jane Werner ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
This superior collection of imaginative fantasy in poetry and prose with the stunning illustrations of Garth Williams is really the best so far in this popular series and a handsome value at the price. The material is for the most part from modern authors with Walter de la Mare, Katherine Mansfield, Carl Sandburg and Amy Lowell represented, as well as the old favorites such as Stevenson, Carroll and Lear. Some are familiar but others are included for the first time in an inexpensive edition. The full color and black and white illustrations extend the mood of fantasy, with soft lines and color and an abundance of fantastic detail with unlimited perspective -- no wild tale seems impossible to this artist and he does not hesitate to draw a whale in a handkerchief case or model village covering the ""Land of Counterpane"".
