That Certainly is some toad!""--and it takes Teddy and Peter a long time to find him again, during which they become frog and toad experts (with a minor in turtles and salamanders and snakes). There's a boost for bird-watching too, and a small lesson in etymology (the derivation of polliwog and tadpoLe). The empirical approach is more random and repetitious than in earlier books in the series, and the childish encounters with reptiles and amphibians seem more typical of preschoolers than of beginning readers. This is not likely to sustain interest as a story and doesn't provide more than rudimentary physical description of the amphibians--but you will be able to tell a frog from a toad.
