Janet Lambert's fans will welcome another starry-eyed story about Tippy Parrish. A sequel to Rainbow After Rain, this book sees Tippy through the first year of her marriage to Peter Jordon and the knocks she has to take as a young army wife in Panama. After the breathlessly heady preparations for the wedding which Col. Parrish and his family give on Governor's Island, Tippy, though crazy about Peter, gets homesick. In Panama, the other army wives seem a boring lot to her with their talk of food and babies- in contrast to Peter's more exciting life. Her first dinner party is a flop. Morose and stiff-lipped, Tippy takes to heavy reading and brooding- until an unhappy relative of Peter's visits them. In sympathy for the more drastic problems she presents, Tippy can realize her own blessings. She can see now the happiness to be found in daily friendships and small talk which Peter says he loves to hear in the evening. But the half truths and pat solutions make us hope Tippy won't start reading too many serious books again. Machine- made.
