LITTLE BEAR LEARNS TO READ THE COOKBOOK

Little Bear can't lay an egg like White Hen, or make milk like Brown Cow, or make wool like Gray Sheep, but he can bake a cake like the Baker--if he learns to read the cookbook. So off he goes (with friends Squeaky the Mouse, Sparrow, Squirrel and Owl) to Miss Dimple the schoolteacher, who asks the pupils to name a food for each letter of the alphabet. Cheesecake is an unlikely choice for C, and Eggplant and Kale are unlikely choices altogether, and it's most unlikely that anybody (or bear) could learn to read by this recipe. But when Little Bear gets his diploma, makes his valedictory cake, and pronounces the result ""Delicious,"" you're apt to forget that the story's a marshmallow sandwich.
