Following on With a Wig, With a Wag, a collection of American folktales from the country over, this goes beyond the shores and ranges to the legends of Hawaii, Alaska, Purerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Fifteen or twenty stories, brief and attractively retold tell how a raven boy brought light to the Yukon, what happened to the Hawaiian king who felt insulted by the chattering of the birds and how Pedro, the Puerto Rican prankster who was always just seen yesterday or expected tomorrow, operated. Tales of trickery and origin, these do something to indicate the characters of islanders and northerners who also came to be Americans. Fine for story telling and reading aloud too.
