Calculated jet set intrigue with all the amenities--port and Stilton in the first class lounge, a stopover at Castle Gyrfalcon in Wales, a fake countess driving a Maserati, and a Harvard man behind the wheel of a Fiat Spider. Seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Darragh moves through her dual role as art expert (she's the one who spots the almost-Leonardo on the back of an 18th-century portrait) and detective with the composure of a mannequin; not content with ""borrowing"" the Fiat to retrieve the stolen painting and searching a murderer's closet for incriminating evidence (it's all been left there, in one convenient stash), she sets herself up as a decoy hoping to catch the thieves single-handed. Very clever if you care to believe it, but this slick composition will never pass for an original.
