THE BEYOND

Investigator Alek Selby is sent to Engo, ""The Exile Planet...Planet of death"" to check on the possibility of a ""Beyond"" (multi-talented mutant). Engo is the Federation's dumping ground for telepaths, banished there out of superstition and fear. So far there has been no proof of the existence of a true ""Beyond"" but 10-year-old David Cant was spotted teleporting. When Selby arrives he discovers that David is supposedly dead but young Johnny Sloan exhibits some strange abilities. Meanwhile terrorist Philip Wig appears to either kill David or use him in a political power ploy. A trifle trumped up (Selby turns out to be a latent Beyond), this is still skillful story spinning and the young reader won't need ESP to get the moral.
