Bee-keeping in Victorian Dorset sweetens the familiar murder/twitching curtains/ thumps-in-the-night business of this standard but agreeable tale of romance and suspense. Deborah returns to the manor house of her beloved Uncle Josiah at his urgent summons to discover him dead--apparently of a bee sting. But by the time Deborah and that irritatingly handsome and arrogant bee-keeper Anthony tumble as to why the offending bee was not ""theirs,"" a gentle old snoop has had her neck broken, near-fatal accidents seem to dog Deborah, true colors among trusted neighbors shine forth, and there's a puzzle on a pediment sculpted long ago to point to treasure. It all just hums along. . . .
