GENTLEMEN, HUSH!

A fresh, mature treatment of the difficulties faced by the Confederacy at the end of the Civil War. Bitter at the surrender, three Rebs, all under 20, happen to be together at the last moments of the war, return to the ruined home of one of the boys to carry through Lee's order to ""go home and help build up the shattered fortunes of the South"". Their plans are vital and interest in their projects is well sustained. The boys are faced with the possibility of losing their land and all they have put into it, for non-payment of taxes which accrued during the war. The father of one of them buys the property for them, saving it from being sold to speculators. The story dramatizes the enormous problems which the South endured and avoids maudlin appeal.
