THE DAM

A better book than his The Prisoner Ate A Hearty Breakfast, which seemed to us a meaningless runaround in modern mood. This has more plot focus, and the author has eliminated his tough- styling-after-Cain. A story of the depression, of unemployment (the central figure is a construction engineer), of W P A and a reenstatement of security and pride in work accomplished. Of the building of the dam -- and the interrelation of the men involved. Men rather than women -- within definite limits.
