An entertainment which indulges chivalry and sentiment, danger and a lively improbability, in the story of Armorel- one of the Channel Islands- where the tranquil, conditional life of some three hundred farmers and fishermen is broken by the German occupation, and the martial regime of Captain Hans Weiss is countered by a courteous resistance. It is, however, the approaching confinement of Venus de L'Abbaye, a cow of prize and pedigree, which becomes the focus of concern as Captain Weiss decides ship her to Germany, while in London the War Office launches an Operation Venus to her. The clandestine arrival on the island of Valentine Morland and Nicola, later of the Suzerain; Nicola's love for Lionel, her cousin, an artist and a pacifist; the failure of the attempt to deceive Weiss; but the last minute getaway with Venus aves Lionel behind- to pay the price of death... Exciting, and engaging with its gentle of romance, this should prove pleasantly rentable.
