Reporter Stearn, noted for last year's souped-up survey of Gay Life USA (The Man), here invulse another inner sanctum, the world of the occult, relating ESP to the rigors of the Nuclear Age. His is a brisk, business-like tour, but full of razzle-dazzle and lots of challenging creeps. There's Washington matron Jeane Dixon who predicted the Gandhi assassination; Cayee's Universal Mind, whose geological forecasts have already been in part confirmed by the recent IGY findings; the Malachy mottoes which identify the succession of the popes from Celestine TI onwards; plus examples from telepathy, slairvoyence and precognition (all staggering or the pages refunded), along with celebrity bits (the then unknown Grace Kelly being told she'd be a famous star and a princess; FDR learning quite rightly he had only 4 months to live; Lincoln holding White House seances. Hitler following star-gazers), coupled with concluding chatter on how psych communication may revolutionize crime, war and diplomacy. And last but not least a skyrocketing exervation of of Nostradamus, the fabled 16th century prophet who foresaw the date of the French Revolution, the two World Wars and, so his illuments say, has foreseen the Soviet fall. Big question: will Moscow ban our book? A satisfyingly scarifying account.
