THE BEATINEST BOY

Jesse Stuart has written atmospheric fiction and non-fiction, for adults, about his native Kentucky (see Hie to the Hunters, Kentucky is My Land, etc.) His first juvenile continues the same warm, true feeling for the mountain people and country he knows so well. It is a simple story, of an orphan boy David who comes to live with his Grandmother Beverly. Their affection grows for each other, through the things his granny can teach David about the wilds, through the things David does to help and there is a glow when David give her the Christmas presents he wants with his earnings. Mark it for a regional, seasonal market.
