After it had been cold for a long time a sweet warm wind came into the city."" Coat buttons open, snow plows pack up their shovels, the ice cream man goes to his garage, the shoe store has a boot sale. ""Too soon, too soon,"" says Mrs. Mundy, and she is fight. Cold blasts return, and Matthew Peterson regrets his lost mittens. Mrs. Mundy again outguesses the vegetable man as warm south winds return to stay. By trying to maintain several scenes this diffuses very simple impressions, and the representation of a polyglot background (by relevant graffiti and signs) is largely window dressing.
