These stories from True West magazine are composite accounts of true events and characters mostly little-known, and are presented in a curious blend of fact and legend. The legend tends to affect the quality because of sentimentalization and some trying attempts at western dialogue ""Wal, Gin'rill, I can't say fer sartin, but I think thar wur nigh onto three thousand uv' em."" But several stories are of interest: the legend of the Colt 45 and a hard look at the reputed prowess of gunslingers; the ordeal of Rachel Plummer after her capture by the Comanches; and the circumstances surrounding the naming of the Tombstone territory are particularly effective. A hit-nd-miss round-up of Western activity aimed at the True West buff.
