THE ROOKIE FROM JUNCTION FLATS

A down and out St. Louis Browns picks up a persistent Arkansan, Wilbur Hatfield, who slugs 'em back into first place. The gawky awkward Wilbur lures the Browns to junction Flats by loads of letters, turns out to be a failure at fielding but a wonder at walloping. Lots of fun in the Rookie's browning and the drawings by C. L. Hartman have marked chiaroschuro effects that lend a certain lyrical quality to Wilbur and his surroundings.
