by John Cecil Holm ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 7, 1942
This is sub titled, The Story of a Philadelphia Family, of special local appeal. The Holms lived on Lancaster Street, near 43rd; they summered in Wildwood, they visited relatives in Lancaster...Thoroughly domesticated account of life during the present century in Philadelphia, with Father, primarily an electrician, who could turn his hand to anything (defeated only by heating apparatus); and Mother, quietly determined to achieve her dream house, raise her family at least expense, and maintain all possible correct attitudes. There are Father's enthusiasms, in all directions, his garrulity, his inventiveness, his originality; there are anecdotes galore, of streets places, accidents, candy, movies, ways of earning pin money, family vicissitudes; then the quickening tempo of college, of jobs, of the break-up of the family. Nostalgic, agreeable reminiscences.
