A commodity novel for the ice hockey devotee -- square as the puck is round and clean, and slightly resigned in tone since only bad things are in store for Les Burton, captain and star player of the Falcons; the team has not been doing well; his girl of four years (a television celebrity -- he doesn't belong in her world) has just tried to check out; and he finally has been suspended, most arbitrarily, because of the newspaper notoriety of the latter. Craig's not much of a storyteller and God forbid he should have to create a character but the book will service a certain audience during the time when the action is where it should be -- on ice.
