A rather weak story is more valuable in the information it relays than the machinations by which its culprits are captured. It is about the Canadian West in 1874, fast, bad Fort Whoop Up, and the beginnings of law in a lawless country when the Canadian Mounted Police became a force to be felt. Its hero, 15 year old Bill Walton, comes into contact with the Mounties after a wagon train which he and his father are helping to run has been broken up by a scuffle with smugglers who escape. Anxious to help track them, Bill works with the Mounties and in the end wins a place on the force himself. But aside from a certain period atmosphere, his adventures are straight cops and robbers.
