I didn't like this as well as I liked either Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown or Who Likes the Dark by Virginia Howell. And the reason? It seems to me this introduces a note of fear -- and then offsets it, a negative approach which makes it demand a fairly mature emotional angle. Travel by night- cats by night- the moon-sailors on the sea- protection from policemen and prowl cars- shadows that are good when you know what they are- stars- trains-lights from cars and trucks- street lights- firemen and Santa Claus, a motley array of night factors familiar to children.
