by John Holt ‧ RELEASE DATE: Nov. 19, 1970
Responding to the 'what do I do' of student as well as teacher, this is another of Mr. Holt's free-form journals dealing with concepts -- particularly those of George Denison and R. D. Laing -- and, quite pragmatically, with the ""landscape of learning."" Discussion of classroom techniques in teaching writing or math is broadly instructive: Mr. Holt is on to student dodges in the first case, to difficulties of apprehension in the second. Then too he airs his own uncertainties and reservations: the spirit of inquiry is as strong as the spirit of liberation. Assumed is a sort of collaboration which many students are not prepared for; this extends the insights of How Children Learn and How Children Fail in that direction. And for those who'd pursue the subject, the bibliography is excellent.
