MURDER OF A MODERATE MAN

The story of an Iranian political prisoner who is spirited into the Western world, where he finds that he is the prize in a dirty fight among the Soviets, the Americans and the British as the superpowers seek to control the future of his country. Parviz Vaziree has for three years been a prisoner of Khomeini's regime; he is the heir to the leadership of one of the few political forces to challenge legitimately the power of the Ayatollah. Suddenly released from his isolated prison, Vaziree is sure that he is on his way to be executed, but instead finds himself released to the keeping of Interpol and transported to England, where he is to be star witness in the extradition hearing of an international weapons dealer. Also at the hearing, representing another arm of Interpol, is Morgan ""Railway Joe"" Hunter-Brown, who quickly realizes that the little Iranian is being used as more than a witness--he is also being used as a lure to flush out exiled leaders of Iranian opposition parties. Successfully. One by one the leaders emerge from hiding, and one by one they are murdered, until only Parviz remains. With the assistance of a glamorous but married polyglot with whom he has become smitten, Hunter tries frantically to find out which superpower is behind the killings and why before a team of vile Palestinian hit men can get to the noble but vulnerable Vaziree. Fashionably muddled at the beginning, but worth unraveling.
