A story of a young playwright, at loose ends and unable to create, who finds himself involved with the conflict of shame and realities in the labor problems of a Connecticut mill town. There is an established form of paternalism, against which Labor is struggling. There is fake liberalism -- parlor liberalism --among the upper classes. There is the struggle of the C I O for recognition. But it takes a love affair with an almost tragic end, to bring the young dramatist back to a realization that he is fighting in the wrong camp, and that, through his own medium, he has a chance to work for intelligent liberalism. Opportunity used for thrashing out the modern viewpoints on social problems. Fairly interesting, though a bit unresolved.
