GENERAL VON STEUBEN

It took good salesmanship to sell Von Steuben to the American army, for while he was presented as Lieutenant General, he was actually a captain who had been dropped fourteen years before by Frederick the Great. But once sold, he made good, was beloved, and instituted important reforms in discipline and tactics. After the war, he became an American citizen, a fantastic, highly colored figure. Sympathetic treatment, not too technical, though its chief market will be those interested in military tactics.
