by John Stadler ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 1, 1984
A mod baseball gag with some beginning-reader potential. When snail comes to bat in Stadler's multi-animal line-up, he manages to slam the ball so hard it goes into space and eventually hits the moon. . . while snail slowly, wearily, thirstily, sleepily makes his way around the bases. Will snail somehow reach home before the returning, bouncing, bounding, flying ball? The finale is quite an explosion; but once you've seen snail's amazing hit, you've pretty much had it--except for the short, primer-type captions (""Snail runs. Snail is slow. Snail is tired"") that might invite self-reading with feeling.
