by John Strachey ‧ RELEASE DATE: July 17, 1940
This book seems to create almost a tranquil pool in the world's turmoil, with the assumption that we can plan for a better ordered economic and social set up and expect our plan to come true. He analyzes the weaknesses of our system -- the so called democratic system; he assumes that some form of economic planning must take the place of capitalism in democracies; he redefines socialism, and shows how Fascism, Nazlism and the New Deal have approached it, but each maintaining ""profitability of production."" He presents a six point program for subordinating this to raising the standards of living, without eliminating it. Less extreme than previous statements of his viewpoint.
