One of the most interesting books of the season. Not easy to classify and may fail to go over for that reason, but it deserves a wide market. What is it? A story about Ethiopia -- a story about Washington's lack of statesmanship -- a story of the Peace Conference -- the League of Nations -- a story of what happened in Germany and Italy and England and Ethiopia because of what happened in Washington and Geneva and England. The ""diplomatic war"" on three fronts three years before the actual war in Ethiopia. The links, so separated, together form a chain of errors in judgment and statesmanship which have resulted in such anachronisms as Hitler, Mussolini, the Ethiopian war. The errors forced the results. This answers the questions how and why. The writing is excellent, the thread clearly held, cold logic in every line, and yet fine feature writing with restrained anecdote. The market is every intelligent person interested in current problems.
