by John Van Druten ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 1, 1957
The playwright-novelist conducts an ambient, associational search of the past and the present, from London where he was born to the Southern California valley where he now lives, and in the widening circle of several worlds attempts to isolate his tastes and tenets, marks the extension of his own personality. Selecting here, reflecting there he also remembers, lingers, recognizes and appraises; people, and sometimes celebrities, mementoes; music and painting; letters and books- mostly books- occasion a contemplative commentary as he attempts ""in some degree to look beyond the human limitations of a personality to a larger, other, more embracing quality that envelops it""- and finds some measure of spiritual faith. All in all, it is a pleasant, personal, and ultimately more meaningful journey.
