by Joie & Bill McGrail ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 29, 1969
With splendid full color photographs by the late Mark Shaw, this game cookbook is an evocative lure for sportsmen. Mrs. McGrail accompanied her husband on sorties after deer and game birds; they cast for fish and muddied about for crustaceans and frogs. While the catch hung or waited in a pail, presumably savory thoughts stirred and each hunting adventure is concluded with herbal recipes-intended to bridle a too-strident gaminess while retaining the spirit of the wild. For the hunter and fisherman, the narrative offers pleasant views of the McGrails at work in snowy woods or idyllic streams. Happy hunting grounds for well-heeled sportsmen-cooks.
