by Jon A. Jackson ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 25, 1993
Jackson takes a giant step toward the big time with his fourth novel about Detroit homicide Sgt. Fang Mulheisen (Grootka, 1990, etc.)--whose search here for the killer of several top mobsters runs headlong into his reunion with Bonny Wheeler, the object of his high-school lust, who's now married to Gene Lande, an uncouth computer whiz with all the wrong ties to the dead mobsters and their pals. As the deceased's associates jockey clumsily for position--for a prize of millions in stolen drug money and the possibility of waking up the next morning--Mulheisen finds himself sharing space with Lande at Bonny's bedside when she's hospitalized with a swift-moving cancer. Not enough for you? Throw in knife-edged vignettes--of a hit man with a soft spot for the innocent witness and of a mob daughter who thinks the police move too slow--and you might just have the best procedural of the season.
