THE BLIND PIG

A ""blind pig"" is what they call an ail-night speakeasy in contemporary Detroit, and slightly faceless Detective Sergeant Mulheisen (The Diehard, 1977) spends a lot of time hanging around those blind pigs in this actively gnarled case crowded with gun-running Cubans, mob-connected truckers, and agents for the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau. Though the complications are hyped up a bit, the tangles are traced to human motives--rather than vast conspiracies. And Jackson does a fair job of keeping the chief culprit out of the limelight, so if MuLheisen is a ""blind pig"" not to spot him, you'll sympathize. And that particular biracial Detroit sleaze has rarely been more noxiously, noisily captured.
