THE GARDEN GAME

Major Rickman of British intelligence has just emerged from eighteen months' imprisonment as a result of Nigerian political machinations that backfired, leaving his mission -- the recapture of sensitive documents -- unaccomplished and most of his handpicked team dead. Noblesse oblige leads him to track down the survivors, who've been lured by a silky Swiss munitions maker into becoming gladiators for the entertainment of a cabal of millionaire industrialists. Rickman manages to recover the papers but his men are not so easily salvaged. The action is swift and even the gloom is vivid.
