by Joseph Kinsey Howard ‧ RELEASE DATE: Nov. 9, 1943
An exceptionally good regional book, with broader implications than the title would suggest. The political, economic and social history of Montana, through roughly eighty years of that history. The author writes of copper kings and cattle kings, of the waste in attempting to make farm lands of range lands (a lesson the Indians might have taught them), of todays attempt to reclaim those waste lands. Not a guide book, in any sense, but a thorough state history.
