by Joseph M. Reuss ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 14, 1964
Concerned with what he consideres a pressing need for more adequate instruction in the ""sphere of sex,"" the Auxiliary Bishop of Mainz, Joseph M. Reuss, has written on the better books on the subject. He directs it primarily to priests and teachers so that they will be better prepared to teach parents how to give proper sex-education to their children. But the specific step-by-step presentations he offers in the second half of the book are so complete that they will be valuable aids to conscientious parents trying to offer the right information at the proper time to children ranging in age from toddlers to young adults. Bishop Mainz, thank heavens, takes a long, realistic look at life in the 1960's, and writes his book accordingly. His treatment of modesty, chastity, mortal sin and confession is noteworthy, and will be of considerable help to anyone dealing with adolescents. It is gratifying indeed to have an important book from the pen of a Bishop on this critical subject. It deserves wide readership.
