Shorty, an avid basketball player, deserves his nickname. He is no more than five foot one when he enters eighth grade, of vehement disposition, a vehemence which changes to antagonism when he is forced to switch schools and so forfeits his place on the team. His new schoolmates laugh at his athletic aspirations and respond to his aggressiveness with disdain, till Shorty realizes that the team is more important than any one individual, and learns to participate in a manner to which he best is suited. Good basketball detail and the sensitive treatment of a problem facing many boys of this age recommend this to pre-high school athletes.
