BIOGRAPHY OF AN ALLIGATOR

Down in the Everglades among the pickerel weed, live oaks, osprey and cottonmouths, a baby alligator is hatched. . . and survives hungry bullfrogs, drought and fire to reach an impressive 200 pound maturity. Male alligator ends up mating, though here the author is sparing of detail, and the course of protectionist legislation is reported only in the epilogue. While he's a perfectly good specimen of his kind, this alligator tends to disappear into his teeming environment.
