TO CAPTURE THE KING!

This historical adventure story is set in Britain, 1752. Prudence Winter and her cousin Kit Merriweather find a wounded stranger in the garden. The mysterious victim is desperately eager to save the Falding Treasure, a family inheritance of jewels, from falling into the hands of those who would back a Jacobite uprising. Trying to help the stranger, Kit and Prudence become involved in an imbroglio of smugglers and Jacobite ambitions. Although the complexity of the plot coupled with the political-religious relationships of the time make this fairly complex reading for American readers, the book shows British thinking when American philosophies took shape. Too, the Oglethorpe family plays an important part in the story, as well as Horace Walpole, William Pitt and Samuel Johnson.
