KING FISHER LIVES

The always highly literate Mr. Rathbone with his most congealing story to date grounded this time in more subliminal evil and extending beyond the mystery genre. Louis ""King"" Fisher, a very sick messiah and author of The Fuck Haters, comes to England where he is seen exerting his ""totally go"" personality on a colleague, Mark, and his sister Nadia (they all share each other). Fisher is also seen producing Timon of Athens and lecturing on Lord of the Flies; the latter work particularly destroys for Fisher any possible redemption of humanity and he goes off, with Nadia and Mark, to a little valley in the Spanish mountains where he hopes not to save mankind but his own skin, a very thin tegument for the soul that is not there. He's his own survival kit and the Robinson Gruesome life they lead proceeds to the ultimate barbarism. Rathbone cleverly misreads a good many concepts re civilization and the last untrammeled man to implement the horror of it all.
