Idealist Charles Garden is convinced that he should help persuade Prof. Arbitzer to return to his now satellite country as head of the warring resistance groups and, backed by steel magnate Sir Alfred, head up the party. A first contact is murdered, their arrival abroad brings death to Arbitzer's wife, and the efficiently planned revolt is just as efficiently smothered. Evading Communist pursuit -- in a brothel, on a boat, in a party of English tourists -- only Garden and Arbitzer's niece reach England safely and there find the traitorous answer to their misadventures. A new type cloak and a right sharp dagger.
