Marion, his wife, babbled along about adult relationships and mutual trust, but thought that he had killed the girl. His discomfited neighbors, hyper-aware of their status as residents of The Dell, an almost exclusive suburb of London, wished him convicted of the murder. Even his partner connived at providing circumstantial evidence. All through the investigation and trial, Solomon Grundy insisted on losing friends and influencing people with his acid brand of the truth. With a surprise-twist ending, this is the best of a long line of very good Symons books.
