n excellent survey of the basic facts and scope of the science that studies heredity. The processes and principles of genetic change that determine ereditary characteristics are explained and discussed briefly but coherently in a anner that does not oversimplify. Copious diagrammatic line-drawings provide exceptionally good examples illustrating a more straightforward rather than interest-arousing text. The book offers a fine integration of information contributed y other sciences such as biochemistry and anthropology to genetic determinations human heredity, animal husbandry and plant breeding. All the major theories and significant experimental conclusions touching on the mechanisms of heredity are covered. There are particularly good chapters: ""DNA--The Ultimate Structure,"" ""How to Make a Man,"" and, ""The Races of Man"". This last would be difficult to isinterpret. A touch more historical and anecdotal material would have contributed depth and contrast to the unrelieved expository style. Nevertheless, as the ook stands, it should be extremely useful to anyone wanting a serious, but not difficult, introduction to this intricate and important branch of science.
