The author of Home Play for the Preschool Child and 838 Ways to Amuse a Child here rounds up a variety of games and play ideas for the six to twelve year olds which she, as a mother and a teacher, has tested. They are grouped by indoor and outdoor possibilities, games of skill, creative nature and science games, tricks and stunts, family games, parties (and these include invitations, cake and table decorations, icebreakers, etc.), and special planning for holiday gatherings. The games are described with their rules, and there are drawings where necessary to supplement the instructions; there are indications to show whether the activity is suitable for small or large groups and whether it needs adult supervision; there are lists of reference books. For assuring ""a good time was had by all"" this should provide parents and teachers and all kinds of group leaders with plenty of material, suggestions and helpful hints, for keeping their charges happy.
