An old-fashioned, large-format alphabet book, with a single large picture per letter, in which a guinea pig (or two) illustrates what the word says--sportively, and more-or-less humorously. For Juicy, a guinea pig is gobbling watermelon; Kind is represented by a sickabed guinea pig (thermometer, bandage, etc.) and a guinea-pig visitor, with flowers. What gives the book a visual edge, though, is the way the guinea pigs' doings are built into the form of the letter: the watermelon is cradled in the loop of the J, the guinea-pig patient is under the K--while, in two of the most imaginative examples, a guinea pig stands High on the H, and steps on the Wobbly W. As alphabet books go, this is totally unremarkable; as a set of pictures (drawn with some character), it's wholly pleasing--a homespun, direct alternative to lots of artifice.
