Several stories, a few rhymes, a standardized folktale, a book version of Disney's Dumbo--in all a dozen selections, all about elephants, ail short and light in tone, but varying widely in value. As the more enduring entries (Kipling's ""Elephant's Child,"" Laura Richards' ""Eletelephony,"" de Brunhoff's ""Story of Babar"") are hardly discoveries, and the fillers (Anita Hewett's graceless, derivative ""Stamping Elephant,"" the illustrator's own trivial ""Elmer the Patchwork Elephant"") are hardly worth reprinting, there's not much point in bringing them all together-the 'satiable elephant freak can do at least as well on his own.
