A boy's story built around the voyages of the Mayflower. from 1620 to 1624, has for its hero young Tom Bristow whose attachment for the ship became so great that he bought her timber at the end to make his farm barn along the Thames. Tom's first voyage is the famous one and there is a slightly different angle to the Pilgrims' story, viewed here through the eyes of a galley boy. Returning then, Tom sails on three more trips, two to the south and one to Greenland when the Mayflower entered the whaling trade. Harsh times up north contribute to the decision to dismantle the ship and Tom, who finds his love is more for the Mayflower than the sea, buys her wood. Based on historical data, but nevertheless an average adventure story.
